Using data from more than 200 GPS-tagged black grouse at different sites in the Alps, the project will approach the impact of tourist pressure on the behaviour and survival of black grouse in ski resorts from two angles: First, from a behavioural perspective, we aim to characterise the species' behavioural strategies in response to human pressure (e.g. spatial or temporal avoidance of highly frequented areas) and to assess the effectiveness of mitigation measures implemented in recent years, such as winter refuges in the core zone of ski resorts. Secondely, from a demographic perspective, we aim to quantify the additional mortality caused by skiing infrastructures.
