Résumé

FR

The research that is to be undertaken during the course of the Doctoral Programme will be primarily driven by the mandate of the Blockchainn Gov. The Project seeks to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the use of Blockchain technology, in order to find ways to fill the gaps that have led to reluctance in uptake, and ultimately find logical, workable and meaningful solutions that may be able to occasion a paradigm shift and present prototypes which can be which can be fit for purpose, scalable and imbued with trust to be translatable on a global level. The conduct of research will be centred around the theoretical issues surrounding Blockchain technology, which involves an indepth analysis surrounding the nature of the technology and its potentiality to meet diverse sectorial needs, taking into consideration the principles of distributed governance, collective action, internet governance as well as its impact upon the rule of law and the politics of sovereignty. This includes the multidimensional analysis of the work of leading theorists on collective action in relation to the operational function of Blockchain, while also taking into consideration alternative views posed by pre-eminent schools of thought which may provide elucidation on the theoretical sub-strata that drives human behaviour. The intended research work in this area avows interdisciplinary collaboration utilizing participatory action research. This holistic approach is absolutely crucial, as the integration of Blockchain technology as a mainstay requires the multifaceted perspectives of legal, political, and technological experts who can realistically bring to the fore the key issues to be addressed and identify the synergies which will be the key drivers for success. Pilot communities will therefore be utilized in order to test new proposed governance models, as an impetus to provide the appropriate validation and endorsement required to lead to wider acceptance and adoption.
