  • Résumé

    Le but de cette thèse est de montrer et d'analyser la portée politique, juridique et littéraire de l'œuvre du cistercien Hélinand de Froidmont (1160-1230 ca.). Ce travail inclura l'édition critique, traduite et commentée, du De bono regimine principis, traité en forme de miroir du prince qui constitue le long chapitre 38 du livre XI de la Chronique universelle. Ce traité nous est parvenu au travers d'un tout petit nombre de manuscrits et a été notamment compilé par le dominicain Vincent de Beauvais. Afin de réaliser l'édition scientifique De bono regimine principis, les différentes sources de ce texte devront faire l'objet d'un examen systématique. Les différents emprunts à la tradition biblique et à la littérature latine qui sont convoqués dans le traité d'Hélinand de Froidmont seront également analysés. Il sera montré en quoi ces outils rhétoriques participent à façonner un véritable portrait du roi et à donner du pouvoir royal un visage idéal. Enfin, les différentes formes du pouvoir princier seront approchées par le prisme du genre littéraire qu'est le miroir des princes.

  • Résumé

    The goal of this thesis is to develop and analyse the political, legal and literary impact of Hélinand de Froidmont's masterpiece (1160-1230 ad) the Chronicon. This thesis will be based on the critical edition of the treatise De bono regimine prinicipis, which will be analysed, translated and commented on. This treatise, in the form of a Mirror for Princes corresponds to the chapter 38 of the book XI of the Universal chronic. A very small number of manuscripts reached us and they were gathered by Dominican Vincent de Beauvais. In order to achieve the scientific edition of De bono regimine principis, the different sources of this text will be thoroughly and consistently analysed. The biblical and latin influences that can be found in the treatise of Hélinand de Froidmont will also be studied and we will show how these rhetorical tools contributed to draw an authentic image of the king and to give a perfect symbol of the royal power. Finally through the literary genre of Mirror for Princes, the different forms of royal power will be examined.
