Résumé

In the present thesis work, we presented an ab-initio study based on Density Functional Theory (DFT), to explore the structural, electronic, and photocatalytic properties of 2D phosphorene in the presence of the following chemical species: H, H+, OH, OH-, H2O, and H3O+ on its surface. We have shown that the effect of these adsorbents on the optical properties of phosphorene results in a positive response in the visible spectral range, which is very much in demand in photocatalytic applications. Our results showed that the use of phosphorene as a photocatalyst while preserving its structure requires neutral solvents (pH=7). Furthermore, we studied the stability of four two-layer phosphorene stacks, such as AA, AB, AC, and AD configurations; this study allowed us to conclude that at T=0K the AB configuration is the most stable, while AA, AC, and AD are unstable. On the other hand, at room temperature (300K) the AA and AD configurations converge to that of AB. After 2000fs, we have shown that the structure of the AC configuration loses long-range order through the breaking of the vdW interactions between the two layers of the AC stack. In parallel, we also studied the structural stability of phosphorene in the presence of oxygen, as well as the electronic and optical properties. The structure of phosphorene was shown to undergo small local perturbation at the surface, upon adsorption of oxygen on preferential sites. As a consequence, an increase of its band gap from 1.52 eV to 1.68 eV has been observed. In addition to the theoretical study, we have developed an experimental synthesis protocol based on the hydrothermal method, as a simple and inexpensive way for the synthesis of phosphorene, using amorphous red phosphorus as a basic precursor. Using different techniques, such as XRD, XPS, SEM, and Raman, we have shown the efficiency of our synthesis process to prepare 2D phosphorene.
