The study and design of purely metallic, compact, completely shielded Fabry- Perot antennas for focal array applications is addressed in this thesis. The first part is dedicated to the state of the art for evaluating the existing solutions. Next, the classical Fabry-Perot antennas with small lateral size are studied in order to evaluate their performance. The third part presents a new stacked Fabry-Perot cavity antenna configuration. The improvement using the stacked configuration, in terms of control of parasitic modes, radiation and impedance frequency bandwidths and quality of radiation patterns is shown with the help of numerical and experimental results. The fourth part of this thesis presents three different methods to obtain circular polarization for compact, purely metallic Fabry-Perot antennas. Each method is validated using numerical simulations and experimental results. A detailed comparison is presented at the end with an existing solution using horn antennas.
