Résumé
"les trois mondes" is an evaluation of geographical knowledge from ancient times until the end of the sixteenth century. Following a study of the world conception of the ancients, la popeliniere displays a comprehensive view of the geographical knowledge of his era. He describes the discovery of the new continental mass, the conquest, the state of the european and french colonies in america, also magellan's round trip of the world. Finally, he briefly describes the third world : the hypothetical austral land. From his work emerges for france the importance of developing an expansionist policy. We have established the sources, pointed out the variants of the two edtions, estabished a glossary and a detailed index of the names of peoples and places. Our introduction studies how the author works, his conception of history and language, his colonialist project, and exposes an historical account of the austral land.
