L'etude des representations de la banlieue parisienne, telles qu'elles sont vehiculees depuis le milieu du dix-neuvieme siecle dans la litterature, la peinture, la photographie, le cinema et la bande dessinee, permet de mettre en valeur un ensemble fortement coherent et vivant. Celui-ci capitalise les images successives que la societe se donne d'elle-meme et de son milieu. Un tel ensemble patrimonial confirme la pertinence du concept d'artialisation". Le resultat de cette investigation peut etre utilise pour renouveler les pratiques d'une pedagogie de l'espace, eclairer la presentation publique d'un projet d'urbanisme ou alimenter la reflexion d'une commission des sites.

Images of space in the suburbs of paris ( nineteenth and twentieth centuries). A study of cultural geography

Résumé

The study of the different representations of the parisien suburbs, as they are conveveyd through the arts : literature, painting, cinema, photography and strip cartoons, throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, comes up with an extremely coherent and lively group. Thus the successive images that society has of itself and its milieu are capitalized. Such a patrimonial group hibhlights just how pertinent the concept of "artialisation" is. With the results of this study, the approach to the pedagogy of space cas be totally rethrought, urban projects can be seen in a new light and help can be given to the deliberations of the commissions in change of locating sites.
